Why anchor furniture at all?
Because dressers, bookcases and TV stands tip over and injure children every year, and any tall piece is a hazard in an earthquake. Anchoring is cheap and it removes the risk entirely.
Do you anchor into the studs?
Always. We locate and anchor into wall framing, not drywall alone, so the hold is real. Drywall anchors on a loaded dresser are not safe.
